Terms of service
Effective 10 October 2026. These terms are a legal agreement between you and Maiev. They’re written in plain words, but they are binding, so please read them. By signing in or using Maiev you accept them, together with our privacy policy.
01In short
- Be real and honest. One account per person. Your profile and work history must be true, and hearts and validations must reflect what you actually know about someone’s work.
- What you post is yours. You give Maiev the rights it needs to show it and run the service.
- Ranks are estimates. They are calculated automatically from public work and other members’ activity. They are not a reference, a guarantee of skill or a statement by Maiev about anyone.
- Maiev connects people; it doesn’t hire, employ or pay for work. Hiring decisions, job terms, bounty agreements and payments between members are between the people involved.
- Payments are final. Card payments can only be refunded where the law or our payment provider requires it. USDC payments are never refunded.
- Early access. Maiev is still being built. Features will change, and some may break.
02Who we are and who can use Maiev
“Maiev”, “we” and “us” mean the business that operates Maiev at maiev.xyz and app.maiev.xyz. “Our team” means our directors, officers, employees, contractors and agents. “You” means the person using Maiev and, if you use it for a company or agency, that organisation too.
- Age. You must be at least 18.
- Legal capacity. You must be able to enter a binding contract, and not be barred from using Maiev or receiving payments under the laws that apply to you, including sanctions laws. You can’t use Maiev if you are, or act for, a person or organisation subject to Australian, United Nations, United States, United Kingdom or European Union sanctions.
- Organisations. If you use Maiev for a company or agency, you confirm you are authorised to bind it to these terms, and it is responsible for everything done through its account.
03What Maiev is, and isn’t
Maiev is an online platform that shows builders’ public work and peer recognition, lists jobs, and lets verified companies and recruiters contact builders. To be clear about what we don’t do:
- We are not an employer, recruitment agency or labour hire provider, and we don’t act as anyone’s agent. We are not a party to any job, engagement, contract or negotiation between members, companies, recruiters or clients.
- We don’t vet people or companies beyond the checks described in these terms. Verification confirms a payment or control of a domain. It is not an identity check, background check, reference or endorsement.
- We don’t guarantee outcomes. We don’t promise that you will be contacted, hired, paid, or that anyone you deal with will act as they say.
- We don’t give advice. Nothing on Maiev, including salary figures, ranks and news, is employment, legal, tax, financial or investment advice.
You are responsible for your own decisions and dealings with other people, and for checking anything that matters to you before relying on it.
04Your account
- One person, one account. You can connect GitHub, Google and X to the same account, but don’t create extra accounts, share yours, or sell or transfer it.
- Be yourself. Don’t impersonate anyone, or claim roles, skills or work that aren’t yours. A first name or a handle is fine: nobody has to use their full name.
- Keep it safe. You’re responsible for everything done through your sign-ins. Tell us straight away at hello@maiev.xyz if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- Keep it accurate. Keep your details, work history and payout wallet current. We rely on what you tell us.
05What you post
Your profile, work history, skills, photo, posts, messages, bids and anything else you add (“your content”) stay yours. You give Maiev a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable licence, with the right to sublicense to the service providers that help us run Maiev, to host, store, copy, display, adapt (for example resize or format), publish and distribute your content in order to operate, improve and promote Maiev. This includes showing it on Maiev, in share cards and link previews, through Maiev’s public agent and data endpoints, and in aggregated statistics such as the salary index. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already shared outside Maiev, content other members have interacted with (such as a validation you gave), backups kept for a limited time, and anonymised or aggregated data.
You promise that you have the rights to everything you add, that it is accurate and lawful, and that it doesn’t include anything confidential belonging to a current or past employer or client. To the extent the law allows, you consent to Maiev using your content as these terms describe, including in ways that might otherwise infringe your moral rights (for example, formatting or shortening it).
Your profile is public unless a setting says otherwise. We don’t check content before it’s posted, but we may review, refuse, remove or limit any content at any time, for any reason, including content we believe breaks these terms or the law.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we can use them freely, without paying you or owing you anything.
06Hearts and validations
- Hearts are appreciation for someone’s skill, work or time in a role. Give them honestly.
- Validations say you know first-hand that someone has a skill or held a role. Only validate people you actually worked with. Validations are permanent.
- No gaming. Don’t buy, sell, trade or automate hearts or validations, run rings of accounts that heart each other, or use fake accounts. We may down-weight, hold, reverse or remove activity, change ranks, and suspend or close accounts involved, without notice.
Hearts and validations are opinions of the members who give them, not of Maiev.
07Ranks, leaderboards and public data
Ranks and scores are calculated automatically by Maiev’s formula from public code, work history, and hearts and validations. They are estimates and opinions, can be wrong or incomplete, and can change at any time as data, members or the formula change. They are not a reference, a statement of fact about anyone’s ability or character, or a recommendation to hire anyone. Don’t rely on them alone for any decision. We decide how ranks are calculated and shown, and may change the formula at any time. You have no right to any particular rank or position.
Leaderboards also list people who haven’t joined, using only public data from GitHub, Code4rena and Immunefi. They can’t be contacted through Maiev, and anyone can remove their listing by signing in with GitHub and choosing Remove me, or by emailing hello@maiev.xyz.
08Jobs, salaries and news
Most roles in the jobs feed are read automatically from companies’ public job boards and link to the company’s own application page. News headlines are read from publishers’ public feeds and link to the publisher. Salary figures are calculated from advertised ranges. We don’t check this content, don’t control it, and aren’t responsible for it: listings, salaries, links and stories may be out of date, inaccurate or removed by their source. Hiring decisions are the employer’s.
If a listing looks wrong or suspicious, tell us and we’ll look at it. Companies and publishers can ask us to remove their content by emailing hello@maiev.xyz.
09Hiring accounts
Anyone signed in can create a hiring account for a company they’re allowed to act for, for a recruitment agency they work for, or as an independent recruiter. If you use a hiring account, you also agree to the following.
- Verification. A company or agency must prove it controls its domain (a DNS record, or a code sent to an email address at that domain) before it can post roles, send hunts or message members. We re-check regularly and may remove verification at any time. An independent recruiter is verified through their own Maiev verification, which comes with their first credit top-up.
- Real roles only. Only contact people about genuine, open roles at your company, or for a client that has authorised you to recruit for that role. Don’t invent roles or clients. If you keep a client confidential, tell the member who it is before asking them to commit to anything. Don’t contact anyone about a role at the company they already work for.
- Obey the law. You are solely responsible for complying with all laws that apply to your hiring, including employment, anti-discrimination, privacy, anti-spam, recruitment licensing, immigration and tax laws. Don’t discriminate against anyone on a basis the law protects.
- Use data only for hiring. Use information you see on Maiev only to recruit for the role concerned, keep it secure, and don’t copy it, export it, sell it or add it to other databases or mailing lists.
- Never ask for money or secrets. Never ask a member for money, payment details, passwords, private keys or seed phrases.
- Your team. Admins are responsible for who they invite, and the organisation is responsible for everything its teammates do.
- Applications. Only verified members can apply to roles posted on Maiev. You may ignore or dismiss applications; applicants aren’t told.
Members can report an account. We may pause any hiring account while we review it, and close accounts that break these rules, without refunding credit.
10Bounties
The bounty board lets verified members post paid tasks or roles and receive sealed bids. Maiev only introduces the poster and the chosen bidder by opening a chat between them. Maiev does not hold, move, guarantee or escrow any money, and is not a party to any agreement that follows.
- The poster and the bidder agree their own terms, including scope, deadlines, payment, ownership of the work and confidentiality, and are responsible for keeping to them.
- Any dispute about a bounty, including non-payment, late or poor work, or who owns the work, is between the poster and the bidder. We may, but don’t have to, help.
- Each side is responsible for its own taxes, invoices, insurance and legal obligations, and for checking who it is dealing with.
- Posting or bidding on a bounty does not make you an employee or contractor of Maiev.
11Payments, credit and earnings
Prices are in US dollars and may change; a change doesn’t affect anything you’ve already paid for. Taxes are shown at checkout where they apply.
Card payments
Card payments are processed by Stripe as merchant of record (Stripe sells the purchase to you on our behalf and handles sales tax and VAT). Maiev never sees your card details. All payments are final and non-refundable, except where Stripe as merchant of record, or consumer law that can’t be excluded, gives you a right to a refund. If a payment is refunded, reversed or disputed, we may remove what it paid for, including verification and unused credit, and may suspend the account while the dispute is open.
Verification
Verification is an optional one-time payment of $29 USD with no subscription, or comes included with $50 or more of hunt credit. It adds the features described in the app. The badge lasts as long as your account, unless the payment that paid for it is refunded, reversed or disputed, or we remove it because the account broke these terms.
Hunt credit
Hunts cost $3 USD each, paid from prepaid credit. If a hunt isn’t opened within 3 days, 25% of its cost goes back to your credit. Credit has no cash value, earns no interest, can’t be transferred or exchanged for money, and isn’t refundable except where the law or our payment provider requires it.
USDC on Solana
Credit can also be bought in USDC on the Solana network. You must send the exact amount shown, on the Solana network, to the address shown. Payments in a different token, on a different network, of a different amount, or to a different address may not be credited and may be lost; we aren’t responsible for them. Blockchain transactions are irreversible. USDC payments are final once confirmed on-chain and are never refunded. Maiev is not a bank, exchange, money transmitter or custodian, and doesn’t provide any financial service. You bear all risks of using digital assets, including network failures, fees, and changes in law or value.
Builder earnings
When a builder answers a hunt within 3 days, $1 of its cost is credited to them as a reward for responding. Earnings are a promotional reward under these terms. They are not wages or fees for services, and they don’t make you an employee, contractor or agent of Maiev or of any company. Earnings:
- clear 30 days after they’re earned, and are paid in USDC on Solana on the 1st of each month to the wallet you provide, once your cleared balance is at least $20;
- are your responsibility to report and pay tax on;
- can be held, reversed or cancelled, before or after payment, if they come from a payment that is refunded, reversed or disputed, or if we reasonably believe they came from fraud, abuse, multiple accounts, collusion or a breach of these terms; and
- are paid to the wallet address you give us. Check it carefully: payments to a wrong or inaccessible address can’t be recovered, and we won’t pay them again.
We may change, pause or end the earnings programme with notice in the app. Earnings that have already cleared before the change will still be paid. We may withhold payment to comply with the law, including sanctions and anti-money-laundering laws, and may ask for information we need to do so.
12Things not to do
- Break the law, or help anyone else break it.
- Harass, threaten, defame, discriminate against or spam anyone, or post anything unlawful, hateful, misleading or sexually explicit.
- Scrape, crawl, copy or harvest Maiev or its data by automated means (other than through our documented public endpoints and within their limits), or use any of it to build a competing service or to train AI models.
- Overload Maiev, probe or test it for weaknesses without permission, reverse engineer it, or get around its limits, ranking safeguards or security.
- Use Maiev to send unsolicited recruitment messages, or collect people’s details for use outside Maiev.
- Upload malware, or links meant to trick people into giving up passwords, keys or money.
- Use Maiev to launder money, evade sanctions, or commit fraud.
Found a security issue? Email hello@maiev.xyz first, don’t access other people’s data, and give us a fair chance to fix it before telling anyone else.
13Maiev’s rights
Maiev, including its software, design, scoring formula, rankings, compilations of data, and the Maiev name and logo, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. These terms give you a limited, personal, revocable, non-transferable right to use Maiev as intended. You don’t get any other rights, and you may not use our name or logo without our written permission (except to link to your own profile, for example with your rank badge).
14Suspension, closure and changes
You can stop using Maiev at any time and ask us to delete your account (see the privacy policy).
We may suspend, limit or close any account, remove content, cancel verification, or withhold credit or earnings, immediately and without notice, if we reasonably believe the account has broken these terms or the law, puts other people at risk, or exposes Maiev or our team to legal, financial or reputational harm. We’ll tell you why where we can, unless the law or safety stops us. Unused credit on an account closed for breaking these terms is forfeited.
Maiev is in early access. We may change, pause or end any feature, or Maiev itself, at any time. We’ll give notice of significant changes in the app where we reasonably can.
Parts of these terms that by their nature should continue after your account ends do so, including sections 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16 and 17.
15Warranties, liability and indemnity
Your rights under consumer law
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have that the law says can’t be excluded, including the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law. Where we are allowed to limit our liability for breaching a consumer guarantee, our liability is limited, at our choice, to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.
No other promises
Apart from those rights, Maiev is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that Maiev will be available, secure, error-free or fit for any purpose, or that any rank, score, listing, salary, news story, profile, message or other content is accurate, complete or current.
Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, earnings, job or business opportunity, data, goodwill or reputation, however it arises;
- we are not liable for anything done or not done by other members, companies, recruiters, clients, bounty posters or bidders, job boards, publishers, payment providers, wallet providers, blockchain networks or other third parties, or for any job, hiring decision, bounty or other dealing between you and anyone else;
- we are not liable for any delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as outages of our providers, network failures, attacks or changes in law; and
- our total liability to you for all claims arising from or related to Maiev or these terms is limited to the greater of the total amount you paid Maiev in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, and A$100.
Our team
To the extent the law allows, our team are not personally liable to you for anything arising from Maiev or these terms. You agree to bring any claim only against Maiev, not against any individual member of our team. Our team may rely on this clause.
Your responsibility to us
To the extent the law allows, you agree to indemnify Maiev and our team against any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal costs) arising from your content, your use of Maiev, your breach of these terms or the law, your dealings with other users (including any hiring, bounty or payment), or any claim that your content infringes someone’s rights. This doesn’t apply to the extent a loss was caused by our own breach of these terms or our negligence.
16Disputes and governing law
- Talk to us first. If you have a dispute with Maiev, email hello@maiev.xyz with the details. We’ll both try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days before either of us starts court proceedings, except for urgent interim relief.
- Time limit. To the extent the law allows, any claim against Maiev must be brought within one year after it arises.
- Law and courts. These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales and the courts that hear appeals from them, unless consumer law where you live gives you the right to bring proceedings there.
17General
- Changes to these terms. We may change these terms. We’ll update this page and the date at the top, and tell signed-in members about significant changes in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Maiev after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, stop using Maiev and ask us to delete your account.
- Whole agreement. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and Maiev about Maiev.
- If a part doesn’t work. If any part of these terms is invalid or unenforceable, it is read down or removed only to the extent needed, and the rest continues.
- No waiver. If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we haven’t given it up.
- Transfer. You can’t transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours, for example if Maiev is sold or restructured.
- Notices. We may send notices in the app or to the email address on your account. Send notices to us at hello@maiev.xyz.
